Hoodia research is widely available. Hoodia has been under the study of research scientists since the 1950s, and there is much research available on this powerful appetite suppressant. We will point out some of the most interesting hoodia research that's come to light.
In a hoodia research study published in the journal Brain Research in September 2004, rats who received P57 (isolated from hoodia gordonii) voluntarily reduced their daily food intake by 40%-60%.
In a study done by Phytopharm, a pharmaceutical company, a human clinical trial was arranged in Leicester, England. A group of morbidly obese men and women were put in a highly restricted, prison-like environment. The goal was to isolate these people from as many environmental distractions as possible. All they were allowed to do watch TV -- and eat as much as they wanted! Half the participants were given hoodia gordonii diet pills, and the other half a placebo. At the end of 15 days, those who took hoodia ate on average 1,000 calories fewer than those who took placebo pills. That's right -- one thousand calories fewer, all without hunger pangs or a feeling of deprivation!
In 2001, two double-blind studies were performed on lean and obese rats. Obese rats who received hoodia gordonii experienced rapid weight loss. The lean rats also lost weight, but not as quickly as the obese rats. Both groups experienced an overall reduction in blood sugar, but as a result suffered no negative effects.
There have been other tests of the effectiveness of hoodia on weight loss, but they tell the same story: the obese lose weight quickly. The slim lose weight more slowly. This happens due to the suppression of the appetite and there are no side effects. We know, it sounds too good to be true -- but it's for real.
